The Kitchen at The Fat Pig

Our fantastic menus carefully balance all of your favourite classic dishes, with an iconic Heritage Inns feel to give you the best experience possible.

We believe in producing excellent quality food using fresh and locally sourced ingredients. Our potatoes are grown in Preston and delivered fresh each day. All of our pork is from our Rarebreed saddleback pigs farmed in Belmont.

By working closely with our suppliers, we ensure that only the freshest and best tasting ingredients enter our kitchen. Whether you are visiting us for breakfast, a light lunch, Sunday roasts or a get together with family friends – The Fat Pig at Chequerbent is here for you, whatever the occasion.

Andy Higson

Head Chef at The Fat Pig

I was born and bred in Bolton. My Mum was a baker and confectioner by trade but also at Barrett’s Brothers Greengrocers on Chorley old road. This meant that mine and my Sisters lunchboxes where full of fresh fruit and salads; school holidays where full of baking and bread making. This early introduction to fresh and raw produce had me interested in cooking and the skill it took to take these raw products and produce meals. I was the kid using every pot, pan and utensil in my mum’s kitchen.

One of my favourite parts of my job as Head Chef is the daily trip to Bolton Market to buy all the fresh fruit, vegetables, cheeses, fish and meats that we used on our menus. As you can probably tell I firmly believe in fresh and seasonal ingredients, but also what I like to call “proper food” that won’t leave you hungry and that is packed full of freshness and flavour.

I’m delighted to say that along with the Team at Heritage Inns we have created a menu at the Fat Pig that reflects this whilst optimising our own Pork of which inspired our name. I’m delighted to be heading up this new venture in Westhoughton and myself and the rest of the team hope to welcome you all to “The Pig” soon.
